We get to know Vladimir because from the start of the play he seems to be the wiser one.  As oppose to Estragon who seems to who is forgetful and relies on Vladimir.  Vladimir is responsible and seems to be more of a leader to estragon since he relies on him and mature.  Vladimir isnt demanding and controlling although he leads estrago basically. He doesnt show it as Pozzo does.  An object that may symbolize something to him a hat because he is looks in to it a couple of times and throws it....
